The Dane openly laughed at the statement. “I've never met a student with such an inability to navigate the halls before. Yer quite pathetic, jus' so ya' know. Not that it is much of a bother. S'quite fine. You play fantastic music an' that makes up for it.” He grinned down at the solid student in front of him. “But I'll always be glad to lead ya' here. I'm sure I'm not too hard to find if yer lookin'.”

He hummed to himself, looking off at the walls, remembering the musicians that had passed through the school or who the Dane ran into when attempting to leave the castle. “Yeah,” he started softly, “It is strange to think of them as dead now. Is Fredric Lamond dead? He is the last classical pianist I remember seeing around...Pupil of Liszt.” He shook his head. “All brilliant men. 'Course, none of 'em really appreciate running into loud ghosts.”

Mathias blinked when Roderich started playing before breaking into a large smile. He shut his eyes, happily listening to the old, familiar music. Nostalgia welled up inside him, leaving him sad and pleased at the same time. He even seemed to sway with the music. “Nice choice,” complimented the viking softly, trying not to disturb the music.

Roderich honestly didn't now whether he should have been pleased or offended by the compliment. At least, he thought it was a compliment. Shaking his head slightly, he decided not to think too much about it. "With a voice as loud as yours? I'm sure it won't be much of a problem."

He rolled his eyes at the boisterous Dane's statement. Who liked running into loud ghosts? They were overly cheerful and hard to get rid of. But, then again, once you get to know them, they can be rather interesting company. Who knows, they might surprise you. "Hmmm, you never really struck me as the type to know anything about music," said the Austrian, interest piqued, "A pupil of Liszt, you say? I've never heard of him."

Roderich merely hummed in agreement, his hands dancing over the keys, letting the music speak. His eyes drifted shut, his eyebrows slightly furrowed in concentration. The sonata was actually quite long, having been written in four movements, and was longer than the previous pieces he had played. The Austrian tried not to rush it though, wanting to savour the feeling of being able to play again. He paused, a yawn escaping his lips, his hand reaching up to politely cover his mouth. Wiping away the the tears that had formed at the corner of his eyes, he resumed playing.

The Dane grinned. He took a good deal of pride in his booming voice, despite his acknowledgments of the fact it put some people off. It was uniquely his, just as his viking heritage was in the present day. It made him stand out and, quite frankly, made him cool. “Exactly. I'm always out and about too, so it'll be no problem. An' I have all the time in the world. S'great fer listening to music.”

The loud creature idly lolled about the room now, content and active, as though he needed to stretch his muscles. In reality, there was nothing for him to exercise, only a ghostly shape, but old habits were hard to lose, even ones from a thousand years ago. An inability to stop moving was ingrained in the ancient ghost, as were many other odd habits. “I only know about music because I've live-...existed through each period. S'like how it is impossible not to know who the pop stars are these days. Lady Gaga and all.”

Mathias ambled lazily as the music flowed through the room. “Yeah...he wasn't as good as Liszt or anything...but he had a lota great stories of the guy. Never got to meet Liszt himself. A shame...” trailed off the old ghost as the Austrian boy paused. A blond brow raised curiously on the ghost's face. “Kid...you tired? Perhaps it's time for you to hurry off to yer dorm. It is rather late.”

He groaned. "Please do not remind of the decline in good music these days. I don't think I can take anymore of the American pop that seems to have spread all over the world." Especially Katy Perry. He'd never understand people why people like her. Or Lady Gaga for that matter. That woman was just so... weird, there was no other way to put it. And yet, that seems be the thing that makes her so popular. Maybe he was the weird one, for not liking her like everyone else does. The Austrian jumped slightly at the idea. He hadn't thought about it like that before.

Roderich slowly looked towards the Dane as he spoke. "Hmmm?" He was indeed tired, but Roderich didn't want to go yet. There was still so much he could do here! "Nonsense, I'm sure a few more hours wouldn't do much..." A yawn fought it's way up, cutting him off and forcing him to pause in his playing yet again just so he could politely cover his mouth out of habit. "...harm," he finished helplessly. Damn his traitorous body. The Austrian frowned, rubbing tiredly at his eyes. It had been a long time since he got to play the piano again, he couldn't just leave now.

The Dane laughed at the Austrians reaction. “Aww, well, yeah, the music isn't anything as fantastic as a symphony...but it has its own charm. It's constantly changin'. It's always hard to predict what it'll sound like in the future though. In hundreds of years I might be praising this music as masterful.” He grinned softly, definitely amused by the young musician. “You gonna go into music? You're quite talented.”

Eventually, Mathias made his way back to the smaller man, and leisurely lounged by his side. He tsked at him, once the piece was done, and almost made to pat him on the shoulder before remembering that would be an unpleasant feeling for both of them. He instead settled for simply shaking his head. “A lot can happen in a few hours. It'd prolly be best if you stopped for the night. The music room isn't goin' anywhere. And I'm not so cruel as to refuse to take you back here when you're well-rested, 'kay? It gives ya something to look forward to. Don't worry.”

"I suppose so..." said the Austrian, not entirely convinced. But still, he considered it. After all, many brilliant painters and their work, take Vincent van Gogh for example, weren't appreciated until well after their deaths. Maybe the same could be said about this generation's musicians. "Danke," he blushed slightly, not quite used to someone constantly complimenting him, "Though I highly doubt my parents would let me. I don't really have much of a choice of what I get to do once I graduate."

Most likely he will have to work alongside them and be forced into a marriage with someone he had never met before. Roderich recalled a conversation he had had with his cousin a few days earlier, a conversation on love and marriage. He eyed the Dane, suddenly curious, "Have you ever been in love, Mathias?"

Roderich paused for a moment, before reluctantly placing the fall board back over the black and white keys. He hated how right the viking could be sometimes. Standing up, he turned away from the piano and faced the ghost. "Would you mind escorting me back to the dorms?"

The Dane raised a brow, extremely curious. He could see why the boy's parents would disapprove of their son going into a career in music, if only worrying about his safety. Yet, it sounded like there was much more to it than that, like the Austrian boy had absolutely no control over his future, as though he was a doll belonging to his parents. “What would they have you do for a living then?” asked Mathias with innocent curiosity. “And why must you do as they demand? It sounds very unmodern of them.”

The Dane paused at the sudden question. He frowned slightly, and, for a moment, he avoided looking at the small brunet. He scowled at the floor, only slightly, before bitterly answering. “There's no point in falling in love when you are dead. Nobody really jumps at the idea of loving a ghost anyways. It's a pointless, hopeless affair. The dead are dead, even when we pretend to live.” He sighed. “And I never really attempted to court anyone when alive.”

Mathias shook his head, a little down, but waiting patiently for Roderich to finish with the piano and hurry along to his dorm. “Gryffindor, right? Yeah, sure, I don't mind helping ya find yer way back. S'no problem.” It was not going to be a long journey, just a few twists and turns through the hallways. It was amazing to the ghost that the young student could have such a horrid sense of direction.

((Holy crap, third page! -jumps and cheers-))

"My parents are rather... old fashioned," he started off, hesitant, "There's not much I can do about it. As for what I will be doing for a living in the near future, it's been decided that I will be taking over the family business once I'm ready. Until then, I will have to work alongside my parents." Roderich stated all this as if they were mere facts. The Austrian preferred not to think about the way he lived his life.

His violet gaze remained on the Dane, silently musing over his companion's bitter words even when the other refused to look at him. "You talk as if being dead marks the end of the road for you," he murmured softly, just loud enough for the ghost to hear, "I've seen the other ghosts here; even in death they smile, laugh, cry, cheat, steal, lie, just as they would when they had been alive. Nothing is stopping them from falling in love. Besides, love never had a point to begin." Every time he came across a couple, it always amazed him how immersed they were in one another. He often wondered what it was like to fall for someone, he had dated plenty of young ladies in the past, but had never actually fallen in love himself.

The Austrian sent a grateful look in the ghost's direction, thankful for the fact that there was no way he could get lost with the boisterous Dane by his side to guide him. He calmly walked towards the doorway, abandoning the piano. Roderich stopped upon reaching the door, heaving it open and only pausing to look back at the ghost, waiting for him to follow.

(( *throws a party* ;u; ))

“Obviously. They need to move into the modern times. If I can do it as someone who lived in the 800s, these kids can get over the past,” huffed the Dane grumpily. “I hate seein' these people livin' in the past. They have no reason to act so old, the jerks.” He shook his head, obviously irked. “You ought to do as you like in life. Keep playin' the piano. Maybe someone'll notice and get you a concert. Bastards. No need to waste talent.”

However, he froze in his lazy floating as Roderich argued softly. Mathias scowled at the wall, not used to students arguing with him. Normally kids did not try to correct him. If he was wrong, he was wrong. Yet, Roderich had a bit of a spine. “Death is typically the end of the road,” huffed the ghost. “Sure, you can have a quick relationship with a ghost, something temporary, but everyone always wants more. I'd rather not suffer anymore heartbreak.” He paused, before laughing awkwardly, trying to dismiss his bitter mood. “Not that I can see why anyone wouldn't love me. I'm pretty spectacular. I mean, a viking!”

With that, the Dane immediately ambled after the aristocratic boy, heading out the door, and lazily moving down the hallways at a slow pace. After a moment, he spoke quietly. “What about you, suddenly bringing up love? You have your sights set on someone? Or are you just a lonely kid too.”
