Ludwig stretched. It had been a long day dedicated entirely to potions and professor Snape had been very rigorous despite the fact that he was a Slytherin and Snape supposedly favoured them. Still it was over now, even if he did have a large pale spot on his robes where he had spilt a bleaching agent on himself.

He sat down at the Slytherin table and poured himself a Pumpkin juice. Did they have anything other than it? He didn’t mind pumpkin juice but he liked other things better, he would kill for a good coffee. And wurst, he missed wurst. Perhaps he could put in a request to the cooks or ask Vatti to send some over?

He looked over as someone sat down beside him but didn’t say anything, he wasn’t very chatty. He selected some shepherd’s pie and dished it on to his plate, pouring the gravy on top of it. Suddenly the person on his left jutted his elbow out and the gravy splashed on to the person whom had just sat down. “Ah!” He said looking over, it was very hot and he imagined the person was in pain, “entschụldigen!” He said, pulling out his wand to help clean it off, “I was jostled.”

Lovino grumbled as he walked towards the Great Hall, adjusting his books and giving a dark glare towards the ripped bottom of his bag. He would just use a spell to fix the stupid thing, but his wand had been “confiscated” by some stupid asshole in Gryffindor and he was going to kill that person as soon as he got his hands on him.

And while normally he would have just dropped the stuff off in his dorm and been done with it, he knew that, if he didn’t go to the Great Hall now, there wouldn’t be any food left after he deposited his books and bag on his bed. Lovino hated dealing with the house elves; he didn’t know why, but they refused to cooperate with him while they fell over themselves making things perfect for everyone else.

He dropped down into one of the only empty spots at the Slytherin table, ignoring the blond he was sitting next to while he put his books in a place where food wouldn’t get dropped on them if someone did something stupid. Once that was done, Lovino finally began serving himself, sending a glare in the direction of the pumpkin juice and wishing he had his wand with him. He knew a spell that would turn any liquid - any at all - into wine, and while it was borderline Dark it was worth it not to have the disgusting taste of pumpkin juice in his mouth.

Lovino jumped and cursed loudly as searing hot gravy landed on his pants, quickly sending waves of pain through his body and a message to his brain that said ‘FIX IT NOW!’ The Italian glared at the blond, gripping his fork tightly and muttering curses in his native tongue under his breath. “I don’t fucking care. Get it off. Now.” The Gryffindor was definitely going to die. But maybe after this kid.

Ludwig gathered his wits about him very quickly once the initial embarassment died down. "It was only an accident." He muttered the spell under his breath but regretfully he couldn't get right of the scaulds that were already on his lap. "Scheiße, no need to get rude." He said.

"If you want, I'll save you some food while you go change or get some burn salve, I don't carry any on me." This was the problem with crowded tables. It wasn't his fault. Well, perhaps he should have been a little more careful but he certianly didn't deserve the death glare he was getting.

Lovino's glare intensified and he was this close to stabbing the blond, repeatedly, with his fork until he didn't have to listen to that stupid accent any longer. Taking a deep breath, he forced himself to calm down. He wasn't allowed to kill the other students; then he would get kicked out and his parents would figure out just what he was hiding from them.

"You're..right. It was only an accident. I apologize for being rude." He growled at through gritted teeth, sounding anything but sorry. Because honestly, he wasn't sorry. His legs were still burning with pain, and it hurt to move. And it was all this kid's fault.

Lovino quickly gathered his books up and went to stand, pausing at the kid's offer. Shooting him a suspicious look, he wonder what the kid was going to get out it. The kid was probably hoping that, if he offered food, Lovino wouldn't retaliate for the burns. And to be honest, the kid's hopes were right.

Lovino lightened his look and nodded, standing up. "Alright kid. I'll take you up on that offer." Giving him a slight nod as thanks, Lovino hurried out of the Great Hall and towards the Slytherin dorms. He didn't trust the nurse here to be able to put on a bandage correctly, let alone take care of burns.

Ludwig understood that the boy was angry, anyone would be, but did he really have to look at him like that? Like he wanted to grab a fork and stab him in the eye? It was a little over the top. He supposed he couldn;t blame him and he certianly wouldn't rise to it.

"You're forgiven," He said even though he knew that the apology was forced and probably talking would annoy him more but he was only trying to be polite. He wished he had some burn salve on him - oddly, they had been making burn salve in their potions lesson but they hadn't been allowed to take it away with them, unfortunately.

He resented being called kid, he may have been younger than the Italian but it was only by a year. He was pretty sure that he'd seen him coming out of the same dorm as his brother and a year didn't make him a kid. However, he didn't argue, just put his bag in the space when the Italian vacated and made sure he had some food on his plate, performing a quick preservation spell on it so it would stay warm.

When actually talking to the kid, Lovino hadn’t realized who he was. Yeah, sure, the accent definitely reminded him of that bastard Beilschmidt, but this kid had normal blond hair – not freaky white. So Lovino had glossed over any and all possible relations between the two of them. Which he was regretting slightly now, as he saw the picture Gilbert kept of his “little West” on the nightstand next to his bed.

Lovino still didn’t know what his name was – Gilbert only ever called him West when bragging about their relationship and using it to belittle the relationship between Lovino and Feliciano – but this detail made his already intense hatred of the blond even worse than before. No one related to Gilbert Beilschmidt could mean good news, no matter how “boring” or “tight assed” they were.

But he was giving the Italian food – so Lovino could suppress his hatred just a little longer before moving on from this encounter with a new person marked on his Hated Persons List. Forgoing the robes since he didn’t have any classes left today, the sixth year hurried back to the Great Hall before the kid could give his food away or someone else could steal it.

Moving the German’s bag from his seat and sitting down, Lovino cast a small pleased look at the plate. While English food was barely tolerable, it was food and after having skipped lunch Lovino was prepared to eat anything available to him. “Thanks.” He muttered, giving the blond a dark enough look that one could only just barely see the genuine thanks on his face. It was a look that Lovino had spent a long time perfecting.

When the other teen came back and thanked him, he nodded politely, noting the dark look he was giving but also the thankful and pleased look he gave the food. "It was no problem." He said. Now, he had no reason to speak to the other teen and judging by the glares he was getting, the Italian didn't want to talk to him. Which was why he was surprised when he heard - from his own mouth no less, "What's your name, by the way?"

He wasn't sure why he said it and the instant it was out in the open he instantly regetted saying anything and wondered if he did want to get stabbed with a fork. That's what it seemed the teen had wanted to do to him before Ludwig had offered to save his place and now he just wanted to annoy him more? This new found death wish was most worrisome indeed.

"I'm Ludwig Beilschmidt, pleasant to meet you," He said politely. It probably wasn't true and even in the event that it was, he was sure the sentiment wasn't returned at all. he couldn't help but think that he'd seen him somewhere before, only briefly. Quiddich try outs, was it?

Lovino carefully ate the food, going at slow enough pace that he didn’t choke but fast enough so he wasn’t actually tasting the food. Normally he would give the chef - in this case house elves - the proper respect they deserved by savoring the food, but this was English food; he had learned his lesson the first night here that he shouldn’t attempt to savor anything served here unless he wanted to throw up. Blinking as he heard Gilbert’s brother say something, he looked over at the younger student.

Anyone with any modicum of intelligence could tell that Lovino didn’t have any desire to continue talking to this kid, so why would he try to start a conversation? Unless he had a death wish. Which made sense actually, given who the kid was related to. Lovino would want to die if he was related to Gilbert. “…Lovino Vargas.” He muttered reluctantly, seeing the head of their house glancing over at the table. He wasn’t going to start anything while a professor was watching.

Yeah…it’s nice to meet you too...Ludwig.” Normally he won’t call someone he disliked by their first name, but he already had Gilbert labeled as ‘Beilschmidt’ and it would be confusing to have more than one person called by the same name. Lovino pushed his food around on his plate, glancing over at the blonde.

Ludwig was surprised when Lovino said it was nice to meet him; he hadn't expected him to be so polite. If he was honest he expected no more than a grunt or non-committal noise from the other teen, he didn't seem the type to be polite it he didn't have to but then, maybe Ludwig was wrong about that. He glanced over at Lovino momentarily before turning back to his food, which he was just finishing where Lovino was just starting.

He sipped his drink and started to eat, admiring the quality of the food, They didn't have a house elf at home so he wasn't sure what he had been expecting.

Eventually, without talking to the Italian again, he finished and stood. "It has been a pleasure," He said wholly falsely but still politely, "I expect I'll see you around." He nodded and left to start on his homework.
